Master Gardener Jeanette Stehr-Green will talk about growing blueberries in the Pacific Northwest as part of the Clallam County Master Gardener “Saturday in the Garden” educational series, set for 10-11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept.7, at the Woodcock Demonstration Garden, 2711 Woodcock Road.

Stehr-Green, a graduate of the Oregon State University Online Blueberry Physiology, Production Systems & Management Program, will describe the necessary growth requirements for blueberries as well as their growth patterns. She will talk about acidifying the soil and how to plant, water, fertilize and prune the plants.

During the last half hour of the presentation, Stehr-Green will be joined by Master Gardener Audreen Williams. The two will focus on answering questions about blueberries from local gardeners.

Attendees are invited to bring samples from their plants. Samples should show various stages of the problem, where possible and be placed in a sealable bag or container.

Stehr-Green has been a Master Gardener since 2003. She writes articles for the Sequim Gazette and Peninsula Daily News and participates in a monthly call-in gardening show on KONP. She was the 2012 Clallam County Veteran Master Gardener of the Year.

Williams joined Master Gardeners in 2012 and was the 2014 Clallam County Veteran Master Gardener of the Year co-recipient. She leads Master Gardener efforts at the 5th Street Community Garden in Port Angeles including the monthly Second Saturday Garden Walk.
