Teenage violinist Kate Powers returns to St. Luke’s Episcopal Church’s Music Live with Lunch to play classic violin and fiddle tunes plus some original compositions.

Powers, accompanied by her brother Ethan, arranged eight tunes for listeners at the April 21 concert.

Some of the songs include “All of Me” by Gerald Marks, the traditional Finnish waltz “Emma’s Waltz” and originals called “For Marion” and “Vacuum Cleaner Swing.”

Powers began playing violin at age 10 in 2010 and says she’s still not bored with practicing or performing. She remains an active member of the Washington Old-Time Fiddlers Association, the Northwest Scottish Fiddlers and the Port Angeles Symphony Orchestra while regularly performing with the Powerhouse Band, A Look and a Grin and as a solo act. She recently was the main soloist with the symphony playing Schubert’s “Ave Maria” for violin and orchestra.

Powers continues to take classical music lessons in Seattle with Ronald Patterson with the hope, she says, “to reach my goal and become one of the best violinists and fiddlers in the world.”

Music Live with Lunch was founded 25 years ago at St. Luke’s, 525 N. Fifth Ave., as a musical outreach program to the community with proceeds from the noon concert and 12:30 p.m. lunch benefiting local and global programs. It continues each month on the third Tuesday of the month through May and begins again in September with a half-hour concert followed by a hot lunch.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door or by contacting the church office 9 a.m.-noon Monday-Thursday at 683-4862.
