Sequim teens will debate the fate of an alleged murderer in their upcoming play “Twelve Angry Jurors” starting Nov. 6.

The play adapts the 1954 televised play “Twelve Angry Men” starring Henry Fonda and runs for two weeks at the Sequim High School Auditorium.

Taking place entirely in a jury room, 12 jurors mull the facts in a case against a 19-year-old man for fatally stabbing his father.

What appears to be an open-and-shut case is turned upside down by juror No. 8 played by Hunter Cauffman.

Co-director Robin Hall said the play is one look into how the judicial system works.

“If this one juror hadn’t spoken up and fought, who knows what would have happened?” she said. “He wasn’t totally convinced but he had a reasonable doubt. It’s a fair trial we strive for.”

Hall co-directs the play with her husband Jeff and Christy Rutherford.

Other jurors include Brittney Rives, Betsy Merrikin, Samuel Obermeyer, Victoria Hall, Damien Cundiff, Katie Potter, Niki McElhose, Gabi Simonson, Jack Dismore, Ryan Macedo and Mercedes Woods. Tommy Hall plays the guard.

Robin Hall said she chose the play because the characters are distinct and all have depth.

“Each character is different and they all have backgrounds with a different family life, some come from a foreign country, some have kids, and some have doubt,” she said.

Hall said “Twelve Angry Jurors” serves as a teaching play, too.

“We don’t have a drama department so we get to teach things like character development and techniques,” she said.

“They don’t have personal experiences like these to use and grab from, so we tell them to observe older people and characters.”
