There’s more meaning between the fibers in Olympic Theatre Arts’ upcoming show “Love, Loss and What I Wore.”

The Second Stage production written by Nora and Delia Ephron and based on the book by Ilene Beckerman begins Friday, March 7, and goes through March 16 on OTA’s main stage.

Director and actress Karen Hogan said the Ephron sisters use what we wear as way into the everywoman stories in this play.

“When women gather, we tell our stories,” Hogan said.

“We talk about our mothers, who we loved, who we lost, how we want to lose weight, that we have breast cancer — and, oh, by the way, I love that blouse/shirt/dress/vest you’re wearing.”

Hogan along with actresses Carmelina Mendiburu, Sharon DelaBarre, Susan Dwyer and Lola Hassan-Adams share intimate stories in character such as a gang member, cancer patient and more.

“Some monologues are funny, while others are more sensitive,” Hogan said.

“It’s intimate and an interesting way to do theater.”

Heidi Hansen, OTA board chairman, said the play fits OTA’s Second Stage series just right.

“The staging is simple and it delivers an emotional impact that we think will resonate with our community,” she said.

“Men will like it, but we think this production in particular will be a perfect girls-night-out theatrical experience.”
