Three to vie for Clallam County Fair Royalty

Though festivities are nine months away, organizers of the 2019 Clallam County Fair are seeking their royal representatives.

The three candidates for the 2019 Clallam County Fair Royalty include Rebekah Parker of Sequim, Sammi Bates of Port Angeles and Saydee Peters of Forks.

Coronation is set for 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, at the Exposition Building at the Clallam County Fairgrounds in Port Angeles.

Candidates will answer impromptu questions and present a prepared speech as judges determine who will represent the fair as queen and princesses.

The 100th Clallam County Fair — complete with the theme “Red, White and Moo, It’s Our 100th Too!” — is set for Aug. 15-18. Royalty court attend parades, community events and the four days of fair. They earn scholarships after graduating from high school.

About the candidates

Parker is a 15-year-old sophomore at Sequim High School and Olympic Peninsula Academy. Her parents are Chris and LeAnn Parker, and her sponsor is BrokersGroup Real Estate Professionals. Parker’s activities include drama, having participated in several plays at Olympic Peninsula Academy. Her hobbies are guitar, piano, photography and singing. Following high school, she plans to earn an associates’ degree in multimedia.

Bates is 18 years old and a junior at Port Angeles High School. Her parents are Ed and Sue Bates, and her sponsor is All Metal Recycling. Bates is president of Auto Body Collision and Repair/Welding Skills USA and WE club. She volunteers for groups such as the North Olympic Library System, Olympic Humane Society, Port Angeles Food Bank and Olympic Peninsula Association of Demolition Drivers. She also volunteered at the Clallam County Fair. Her hobbies are welding and photography. Bates’ educational plans are to attend Universal Technical Institute in California and pursue an automotive career.

Peters is an 18-year-old senior at Forks High School. Her mother is Teresah Peters and her sponsor is Decker City Hardware. She has participated in many clubs and activities such as varsity soccer, a cappella and basketball. She has received state honor roll honors and athletics awards. Peters is vice president for her class,and she volunteers at West End Thunder in Forks. Upon high school graduation, Peters plans to pursue a degree in criminology and forensic anthropology.
