The United Way of Clallam County along with the Sequim, Port Angeles and Forks Chambers of Commerce have recently partnered to create Women United, representatives from United Way announced in late June.
The concept for this group was formed after a Galentine’s Day fundraiser in February hosted by United Way of Clallam County — an event was created for women and by women, with funds going to support women in need in Clallam County.
“The fact that this event sold out so quickly, and the outpouring of support from women in the community told us we should harness that energy and create other powerful women’s events,” said Jaycie Wakefield, Development Director for United Way.
“We envision Women United as a compliment to other women’s groups in the area. We want to provide local women a place to create purposeful connection, and to grow personally and professionally through education and mentorship.”
The first Women United event is set for Thursday, July 21, at The Red Lion in Port Angeles. Clallam County women who attend will “experience a unique opportunity for networking, professional development, and personal growth,” event organizers say.
The event starts at 5 p.m. with a cocktail networking hour followed by a plated meal. Rachel Hardies, a mental health counselor and mental strength coach, and Dr. Lissa Lubinski, a board-certified family physician and owner of a community-inspired family medicine clinic, will give a presentation during the meal.
These experts will lead a program and discussion on the issues that matter most to women, event organizers said, including topics such as leadership, workplace stressors, health, work/life balance and more.
Tickets are $45; cost for the event covers the meal. A direct link to the event webpage can be found at unitedwayclallam.org/civicrm/contribute/transact?reset=1&id=6, or join the Clallam Women United Facebook page to stay up to date on events and programming.
