On the rudders of the Olympic Peninsula Air Affaire, the fun of flying continues this weekend with the Radio Control Show and Fun Fly-in.

RC pilots of planes, gliders and helicopters from across the peninsula fly traditional and stunt planes on Sept. 14 showing off their flying skills from the Sequim RC Aeronauts and the Olympic RC Modelers of Port Angeles.

Barry Johnson, vice president of the Sequim RC Aeronauts, said many of the pilots performed before and are primed to return.

“If you saw these accomplished pilots fly at our previous fly-ins, you know they put on a spectacular show,” he said.

The fly-in is free with several prizes to be raffled along with food for sale including the two clubs who will donate most of their proceeds to Volunteer Hospice of Clallam County. All monies from raffles, the clubs’ food sales, 50/50 pot and straight donations will go to VHOCC.

Johnson said the last two fly-ins earned about $3,500 for the agency.

Participation costs $5 for pilots, who must show a current Academy of Model Aeronautics card before flying. They’ll fly from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Johnson encourages spectators to bring their own seats and appropriate clothing for the weather. The event will go on so long as the weather is manageable, he said.

The Sequim RC Aeronauts fly from 9 a.m.-noon seven days a week in the field adjacent to Dungeness Valley Creamery on Towne Road.
