Veterans Corner: Support the Sequim VFW!

VFW Post 4760 will be having dinner and dances every Saturday night at 169 E. Washington St., Sequim. Call 360-681-0434 for more information or email the post commander at sequimvfw4760@gmail.com.

The post will have a booth at the Lavender Festival, July 20-22, and at Coastal Farm & Ranch on Aug. 11 to give out information and answer questions about Post activities, meetings, projects, etc.

Once again the Post finds itself in trouble and may be forced to close because they are not generating enough revenue to pay their bills.

There will be a meeting on July 10 to review the situation.

If you have any ideas on how to generate funds please get in touch with the VFW Commander. It would be a big loss to our community and to veterans if the post is closed and sold.

Attic aid

Sarge’s Place has become more than just a building temporarily sheltering homeless veterans in Forks. They have Sarge’s Attic where they sell items to help support themselves. Sol Duc Place is permanent housing for disabled veterans and Sarge’s Farmstand where they sell produce from their garden.

The next step is chickens! They are requesting donations for a chicken house that will not only keep the chickens safe at night, but also store their food and garden tools. The goal is $3,000 for materials.

Please send donations to Sarge’s Place, 250 Ash Ave., Forks, WA 98331. These additions are providing job training and a way to feed themselves.

Thank you for any support you can give.

Stand Down in PT

Voices For Veterans will be holding the second Stand Down of 2018 in Port Townsend at the Elks Club, 555 Otto Street, on Monday, July 30, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. All veterans are welcome to come and meet with service providers to get questions answered, have a hot breakfast and/or lunch and meet fellow veterans. There will be a clothing room for all and camping equipment for homeless veterans.

Many thanks to Fernelyn, Dee and Laurie for helping me provide the women veterans with new tops, jeans and under clothes.

The Port Angeles Stand Down will be Oct. 4 at the Clallam County Fairgrounds.

These events are for you! Please come out and get involved.
