VHOCC offers grief support classes

Volunteer Hospice of Clallam County (VHOCC) hosts a grief support group starting Wednesday, Oct. 21. Except for Nov. 25, the group will meet 2-3:30 p.m. weekly on Wednesdays through Dec. 2, in the conference room at VHOCC headquarters, 829 E. Eighth St., Port Angeles.

Group facilitator Donna Geer has a professional coaching certification, is advisor to veteran students at Peninsula College and owns Shore Pine Productions. Her experiences with death and dying have helped her appreciate the importance of providing a safe place to talk about the death of a loved one, group organizers said.

Although there is no charge, space is limited to accommodate seating with physical distancing. Participants must pre-register with the VHOCC office by calling 360-452-1511. Sessions follow all sanitation, safety and physical distancing guidelines in compliance with the state’s phased COVID-19 related reopening measures. Participants are asked to wear face masks; masks will be available for those who do not have one.

Since 1978, VHOCC has been providing free hospice services to patients and their families in Clallam County, from Diamond Point to Joyce. Part of VHOCC’s mission is to offer grief support groups — not only to families of hospice patients, but to anyone in the community who has experienced the death of a loved one.
