A week of holy gatherings

Sequim Gazette staff

Holy Week services brought out hundreds of Sequim citizens April 18-22 to five local Christian churches.

The services recognize the five days Jesus spent in Jerusalem prior to his crucifixion.

Church leaders led 30-minute services with a spiritual message and music each day. This year’s event brought back a fifth service on Good Friday, which was absent in 2010.

The ecumenical services included leaders and churches from 10 Christian churches out of 15 involved in the Sequim ministerial committee. Organizers said each event was well attended, with more people each day.

Speakers and host churches this year were Mike VanProyen, senior pastor at King’s Way Foursquare Church, hosted by the Sequim Worship Center; Rick Dietzman, associate pastor of Sequim Community Church, at Sequim Valley Foursquare Church; Dennis Ackley, pastor of Olympic View Church of God, at

Sequim Community Church; Scott Culver, senior pastor of Dungeness Community Church, at Trinity United Methodist Church; and Dave Westman, pastor of Sequim Worship Center, at Dungeness Community Church.

A light lunch was served each day with an offering benefiting Sequim High School’s baccalaureate. The event begins each year at 12:10 p.m. the Monday before Easter.
