The American Association of University Women, Clallam branch, recently picked a trio of Sequim High School seniors for their Girls of the Month.

January

Loretta Creasey’s outstanding high school career demonstrates her excellence academically, musically, and as an important volunteer in the Sequim community, AAUW representatives said.

Vernon Fosket, band director, describes Creasey as, “a well-rounded student.” She is a member of the Wind Ensemble and the Jazz Ensemble.

Mitzi Sanders, SHS Career and College director, describes Creasey as, “a student who possesses the rare mix of motivation, creativity, confidence, intelligence and strong work ethic while being kind, patient, thoughtful and genuine.”

Of her future academic and career goals, Creasey said she plans to attend a four-year university where she will work for a major in some field of biology with a minor in Spanish.

Stacy Hanson’s academic excellence is marked by her No. 5 standing in her class. While she takes a full load of advanced placement classes, she has time to excel in the music program. Hanson plays in the Jazz Ensemble, Wind Ensemble and Concert Band.

Hanson also excels in tennis, earning varsity letters in 2009, 2010 and 2012. She participated in Class 2A state tennis doubles tournament in 2010 and 2011.

She was a tennis camp coach for the Boys & Girls Club in Sequim in 2009 and 2010 and was SHS’s boys tennis team manager in 2010 and 2011.

Hanson plans to attend the University of Washington to major in aerospace engineering. After college, she wants to work for Boeing as an engineer.

Her parents are Kellie and David Hanson.

Katrina Chan began her schooling in China. Since becoming a student in the Sequim Public School system Chan has distinguished herself as an outstanding scholar and community volunteer. Her particular field of interest is mathematics and science.

Said Chan, “I want to attend college at the University of Washington and study business. Later I would like to work in some type of international program in China. I know two dialects of Chinese — Mandarin and Cantonese.”

Chan has been manager of the Sequim boys tennis team for two years and manager of the boys basketball team. She is a member of the girls tennis team where she was captain for two years.

Her parents are Alan Chan and Min Chen.
