Artist at the Carnegie

The art of Sequim artist Joy McCarter will be featured at the Museum at the Carnegie at the Second Weekend monthly art event in July.

The museum, Second and Lincoln streets in Port Angeles, will be open 4-7 p.m. Friday, July 10, and 1-4 p.m. Saturday, July 11.

McCarter will be present at the museum on July 10.

She was born in Port Gamble in 1914 and has lived and has worked in Clallam County since the 1950s.

During these years she painted with Esther Webster, Ardean Robinson, Dorcas Taylor and Leah Right, all well-known artists of the time.

Several of the collection of watercolors she has donated to the Historical Society will be on display.

Free cooking

demonstration

Head Chef Shawn Royaltey of Michael’s Fresh Northwest Seafood & Steakhouse gives a free cooking demonstration at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 11, at The Showcase, 833 E. Front St., Port Angeles.

Royaltey shares step-by-step instructions to create Michael’s House Signature Crab Cakes with Spicy Honey Sauce and Garlic Aioli.

He has spent 14 years cooking in a variety of fine restaurants around the country and incorporating local and regional ingredients.

Royaltey also enjoys mentoring and encouraging young people to become creative cooks through his involvement with the North Olympic Peninsula Skills Center Culinary program.
