ASB food drive helpers are coming to a door near you

A food drive, sponsored by Sequim High School’s Associated Student Body and led by junior Elise Beuke, ASB vice president and project manager, will be in effect through Nov. 1.

Named “Boo, Hunger!” students are determined to scare hunger away by collecting canned food and non-perishable food items for the Sequim Food Bank.

“In previous years, the food drive has taken place just before Thanksgiving,” ASB faculty advisor and science teacher Jennifer Van De Wege said. “However, it is apparent the need is there now.”

• Students are encouraged to bring food to their DEN classes during the week of Oct. 28-Nov. 1 in a competition among the grades.

• The Sequim community should be prepared for Halloween night on Oct. 31, when 25-30 students trick-or-treat for food drive donations instead of candy in many residential areas around town. (Sequim residents, when you shop for Halloween candy for trick-or-treaters, please consider purchasing canned food as well in anticipation of these special trick-or-treaters! Thank you in advance for encouraging these students to make a difference in our community!)

• Food donations will be loaded into a truck and weighed on a drive-over scale at Blake Tile & Stone before being delivered to the Sequim Food Bank. The weight will be tracked to determine which grade collects the most food.

• Parents can bring food donations to parent conferences on Nov. 1.
