The sugar buzz stayed strong for the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Olympic Peninsula’s “Simply Sweet” 24th auction.

As the biggest fundraiser for the Sequim and Port Angeles clubs, the auction, held Nov. 10, netted about $162,000 of its $175,000 goal, according to early totals of the live and silent auctions.

Janet Gray, resource development director, said 225 guests attended and there was good energy throughout the event. Although the event wasn’t at capacity, Gray said the event felt full and there were several first-time guests.

Club officials sought donations for a new Sequim bus and received more than $52,000. They also auctioned off artwork by 11-year old Violet O’Dell, a former club member who died recently of cancer, to help her family with medical expenses. Other fundraisers included cake plate centerpieces and baked goods dessert auctions from local businesses.
