The Dungeness River Audubon Center’s first Summer Science camp for youths was a hit. While exploring the riparian forest of Railroad Bridge Park, campers participated in a variety of activities having to do with science, ecology and nature.

Campers were challenged to think scientifically while building boats capable of withstanding the current of the Dungeness River, identifying salmon species of the river, designing a planktonic creatures capable of floating, and much more. The week culminated with a 7-mile bike ride to and from Carrie Blake Park along the Olympic Discovery Trail, during which campers learned about bike safety and etiquette.

Other camps held earlier this summer included Girls in Science, Nature Ninjas and Creepy Crawlies.

The center will hold its final camp of the year from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Aug. 18-21. This Summer Science camp is open to children ages 7-12. Cost is $150 per child. Visit www.dungenessrivercenter.org/SummerCamp.html for more information and to register or call 681-4076.
