Benefit set for local battling breast cancer

Friends and family are coming together to support breast cancer survivor and Sequim resident Bobbi Breithaupt, 44, with a benefit spaghetti dinner and auction.

Breithaupt’s cancer came out of remission in 2008, and she’s been battling it off-and-on since. Once a week she travels to Swedish Medical Center in Seattle for treatment but medical and traveling expenses are becoming burdensome. Her battle with cancer began in 2000 and lasted about a year before the cancer went into remission.

The dinner is by donation and silent auction bidding, running 4-9 p.m. Saturday, April 9, at the Guy Cole Convention Center in Carrie Blake Park, Jolene Winger, Breithaupt’s sister-in-law, said they are hoping to have 500 people attend.

“She’s a wonderful person and she’d do anything she can to help other people,” Winger said.

“She helped my aunt through her breast cancer, and a friend’s mother too. She’s helped so many people and still has a positive outlook through all of this.”

Breithaupt graduated from Forks High School in 1985 and works at Susan Parr Travel.

She and her husband Steve have two children: Courtney, a senior at Washington State University, and Jacob, a sophomore at Central Washington University.

Winger said organizers have been planning the event for a month and people can come in anytime on Saturday.

The band Fat Chance is scheduled to play through the evening.

Raffle tickets cost $10 for a chance to win one of four items: airline ticket to Africa, two nights in Maui, three nights in Buenaventura Grand Hotel and Spa in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, and two nights in Kona, Hawaii.

The drawing will be April 9 and ticket-holders do not need to be present to win.

Silent auction items still are being accepted and can be dropped off on Friday afternoon or Saturday morning at the convention center.

Cash donations are accepted in Breithaupt’s name at any First Federal Branch.
