José Noe Torres, 57, of Blyn pleaded guilty on June 24 in Clallam County Superior Court to reckless burning in the first degree charges for starting a fire on May 7 within the Sellin’ Style car dealership at 251 Old Blyn Highway.

Judge Christopher Melly ordered Torres to 60 days in jail and $800 in fees for the felony crime with previous incarceration time counting toward his total.

Deputy Kenneth Oien with Clallam County Sheriff’s Office said in his report that investigators determined the fire started on top of a stove inside a trailer in the garage and that Torres admitted to starting the fire because he was angry at his landlord.

The business previously was linked to a methamphetamine ring and its owner Timothy P. Smith, 31, of Sequim, was sentenced in April to 11 years in federal prison.

Torres, 57, was living in a travel trailer behind the building and has a restitution hearing Aug. 7.
