Olivia Boots, a 2008 Sequim High School graduate, will spend her sophomore year with the University of Washington studying history and Spanish language in Spain.

She’ll have some help paying for tuition and books after being awarded a $1,000 Betty Shuen Lee Davis Memorial Scholarship this September.

Before departing for

Spain, Boots attended a meeting of the Sequim Noon Rotary Club where she was awarded the scholarship by Rotarian Bill Davis.

Davis and his wife, Betty, spent a long career overseas with the U.S. Foreign Service before retiring to Sequim in 1974. Upon Betty’s death last year, Davis set up the Betty Shuen Lee Davis Memorial Scholarship Fund with

Sequim Noon Rotary.

Betty Davis scholarships are awarded to students studying United States history and planning for a career in public service.

Boots left Sequim for Barcelona on Sept. 21. Upon graduation, she plans to seek a career in public affairs. She spent the summer working in Oregon before a short visit with her parents, Steven and Patra Boots.
