Sequim is sending one doubles team to districts this week as a top seed after a strong showing at the Olympic League tournament.
Stephen Prorok and Justin Porter won the doubles tournament on Oct. 19-20 for the Olympic League Tournament at the Kitsap Tennis and Athletic Center.
The pair are back at the same facility Oct. 28-29 for the West Central District III Tennis Championships, playing for a berth at the 2A state tournament set for May 26-27 at the University of Washington in Seattle.
Prorok and Porter won the league tournament in two sets per matchup, seeing their closest battle in the championship.
The pair, ranked No. 2 for the tournament, opened with a 6-0, 6-1 win followed by a 6-3, 6-2 win over Kingston’s Connor Friedel and Dawson Clark, and followed by a 6-2, 6-2 win over North Kitsap’s Tyler Meek and Mitch Kunold.
In the championship match, Prorok and porter won 7-5, 6-3 over Andrew Shaw and Brett Spencer, the No. 1 seed out of Kingston.
Four other Wolves competed in the tourney too.
Sequim’s No. 2 doubles team of Thomas Hughes and Blake Wiker went 1-2 with an opening consolation round win 7-6, 6-2.
Raymond Lam finished 2-2, opening with a 6-4, 7-5 loss to Port Angeles’ Tyler Dickerson. He went on to win his next two in the consolation round with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Kingston’s Ian Schmidt and then 6-4, 6-4 over Bryan Sorenson of Bremerton, before losing in the consolation semi-finals to Port Angeles’ Hayden Woods, 6-2 and 6-4.
Sequim’s Damon Little went 1-2 at the tournament, opening with a 6-0, 6-3 loss.
Little rebounded with a 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 over Sam Horn of North Kitsap before losing 6-0, 6-3 to Port Angeles’ Woods.
With two of six eligible players moving on to districts, Sequim head coach Mark Textor said he’s real proud of how the boys played.
