For the sixth consecutive year, staff with Clallam County Fire District 3 and Explorer Scout Post 1003 are partnering with Santa Claus to frequent Sequim neighborhoods beginning Tuesday, Dec. 9, through Friday, Dec. 12, during the district’s Santa’s Toy and Food Drive.

Santa and his helpers will be traveling through town in a decorated 1939 antique fire engine playing holiday classics and passing out candy canes while they collect food donations for the Sequim Food Bank and toy donations for Sequim Community Aid.

“When you see us or hear us coming don’t be shy,” Len Horst, firefighter/paramedic, said.

As advisor of the Explorer Scout Post 1003, Horst has been involved Santa’s Toy and Food Drive throughout the years and looks forward to the various routes, especially the route through Emerald Highlands because he can look across the town and see all the Christmas lights.

“It’s a great opportunity to interact with the community and it’s for a good cause,” Horst said.

Following last year’s drive, Fire District 3 members delivered more than 1 ton of food and $320 to the Sequim Food Bank.

Although, each year the routes and schedule stay fairly consistent, Horst said, Friday is their “wild card” day where they often try something a little different.

This Friday the festive fire engine will make its way to different “hot spots” within town and park for 30 minutes to allow community members to donate and visit with Santa as desired.
