Two fires along the Diamond Point Airport runway were extinguished by Clallam County Fire District 3 firefighters on Monday.
Battalion Chief Chris Turner reports that firefighters responded at 11:09 a.m. Aug. 11 to fast-moving brush fires started while a community work party repaired asphalt cracks with propane torches.
Fires were contained to about 2 acres and 0.2 acres, with a wet line created around both fires as the wind began to gust to 11 mph, Turner said.
The fire district has responded to 56 vegetation fires so far this year, accounting for nearly 52% of total fire calls.
A full burn ban went into effect on July 14 in Clallam County. For more information visit ccfd3.org.
