Clallam County Family YMCA will sponsor the U.S. Department of Agriculture Child and Adult Care Food Program administered by the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction. Meals will be made available to enrolled children at the YMCA’s after school program, at no separate charge, without regard to race, color, national origin, gender, age or disability. Parental income determines the amount of money OSPI will reimburse institutions to provide meals to enrolled children. Bridge Builders, Ltd., sponsors a workshop entitled "Boundaries: Preventing Burnout and Protecting Yourself" from 9:30-11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, at Bridge Builders, Ltd., 305 S. Sequim Ave., Suite A, Sequim. The class addresses the importance of healthy boundaries when helping others. Mindi Blanchard, M.Ed., will be the speaker. The workshop is free to the community and qualifies as continuing education for caregivers. There is a $10 charge for a continuing education certificate.
Kitsap Bank achieved record asset and deposit levels at the end of the third quarter of 2008, reporting total assets in excess of $815 million, up $44 million year to date. Deposits also reached a record $639 million on Sept. 30. Kitsap Bank maintains its position as the largest community bank on the Kitsap Peninsula and continues to be very profitable with earnings of $6.7 million through September. The bank reported total capital of nearly $81 million as of Sept. 30. Established Aug. 8, 1908, Kitsap Bank is headquartered in Port Orchard, operating 27 locations throughout Western Washington.
The Peninsula College board of trustees elected John Miller of Port Angeles as its vice chairman for the 2008-2009 academic year at its board meeting held Oct. 14. Dewayne Johnson, also of Port Angeles, is chairman. Other board members are Julie McCulloch of Port Townsend, Arturo Flores of Sequim and Erik Rohrer of Forks. The Peninsula College board of trustees normally meets the second Tuesday of the month.
Drs. Kari and Roger Olsen and Dr. Charles Sullivan of
Sequim Medical Associates achieved board recertification through The American Board of Family Medicine, in September.
Board certification confers a standard of excellence in knowledge and practice to physicians who not only certify through the examination process but also work diligently on skill maintenance during the seven-year cycle between examinations.
Dr. Samantha Reiter is certified by The American Board of Internal Medicine through 2013.
Two Olympic Medical Center nutrition services employees recently completed requirements for certification in adult weight management. Registered dietitian and certified nutrition support dietitian Vicki Everrett and registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator Christin Maks will use this training to provide comprehensive and integrated weight management care.
They attended the training program in Seattle over the summer to receive the certificates from the American Dietetic Association and Commission on Dietetic Registration.
Port Angeles Symphony’s Adventures in Music school project has been given $1,000 by Westsound Bank. The contribution helps provide all K-5 elementary students in Clallam County with quality, live performing arts programs during the school year. Materials for teachers offer lesson plans and suggestions for integrating the arts into other curriculum areas. Adventures in Music is a collaborative project of the Port Angeles Symphony Orchestra with five school districts in Clallam County.
Two individuals from Clallam County and one from Port Angeles have received the Professional Finance Officer Award for 2008 from the Washington Finance Officer’s Association. Judith A. Scott, treasurer, and Teresa Marchi, treasurer, were recognized from Clallam County and Julieanna Dunbar, a senior accountant/budget coordinator, was recognized from the city of Port Angeles. This annual award recognizes achievements of professional service and ongoing continuing education and training on the part of each individual and is not automatically awarded.

Primary Care Sequim & Walk-In Clinic, 520 N. Fifth Ave., Sequim, changed to winter hours of 7:30 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Friday on Oct. 20. The clinic is accepting new patients, including DSHS and Medicare patients, and offers services on a walk-in basis. Appointments may be scheduled by calling 582-1200.
