Sleep Country USA is sponsoring a shoe drive for foster children through April 13. Donations for new shoes will be accepted at the Sequim Sleep Country USA store, 1041 W. Washington St. Store hours are 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m-6 p.m. Sunday.

Catherine Bailey, P.E., has joined NTI Engineering and Land Surveying. Bailey earned her bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Oregon Institute of Technology and her master’s degree in engineering from the University of California-Berkeley. She holds professional civil engineering licenses in California and Oregon and soon in Washington. She will take the professional structural engineering exam in October. The Clallam County Democratic Headquarters, 150 S. Fifth Ave., Suite 1, has extended hours. Headquarters will be open 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Mondays-Saturdays.

Laura Maroney of Windermere SunLand in Sequim has earned the EcoBroker Certified(r) designation, having successfully completed a training program on the energy and environmental issues that affect real estate transactions. Maroney joins the movement of professionals pushing the real estate market toward energy-efficient, sustainable and healthier design/features in homes and buildings. A fund for Karrie Edgington of My Favorite Things in Sequim has been established at First Federal Savings & Loan Association. Donations may be made at any First Federal location. Edgington had a stroke in February and spent four weeks at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle.

Henery’s Garden Center, 1060 Sequim-Dungeness Way, is now open from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday.

Mary Elizabeth Bower, office manager and clerk to the board, was named Clallam Transit System’s Employee of the Year for 2007. General manager Terry Weed announced the award during the system’s award ceremonies March 9 in Port Angeles. Weed called Bower the "ultimate professional." Other nominees included transit operators Harry Hebert, Scott Gossard, Chris Johnston, Joe Sutton, Dan Kauffman and Bill Franklin; transit operator/dispatcher Bob Eash; operations supervisor Bob Barber; finance administrator Jamie Collier; administrative and payroll assistant Alyeen Carlson and custodian Chuck Newman.

Mike McBride, Ph.D., a Sequim psychologist, recently passed the Psychopharmacology Examination for Psychologists. The exam was developed by the American Psychological Association College of Professional Psychology and is associated with the safe and effective practice of psychology involving the prescription of psychotropic medications and collaboration with those who prescribe such medications. McBride has practiced psychology for the past 22 years in Sequim and is a former instructor for Western Washington University. He is one of only two psychologists in the state of Washington to have taken this examination.

Prism Capital Management, LLC, has acquired McArthur Financial Services of Sequim. Serving clients from its Seattle office, the acquisition extends Prism’s financial services firm to offer more convenience to its peninsula-based clients. Innovation Law Group, Ltd. of Sequim has prevailed in its trademark dispute with a California attorney who sought to obtain a federal trademark registration on the phrase "Ideas Are Assets" for intellectual property legal services. Innovation Law Group opposed the attempted registration on the grounds that its federally registered design mark of a light bulb and dollar sign and its services slogan "Transforming Ideas Into Business Assets" for its intellectual property services meant the same thing and had priority of actual use. The applicant conceded and the Federal Trademark Office will be awarding judgment to Innovation Law Group, which can be reached at 681-7305 or www.InnovationLaw.com.
