Late hours on home game nights
The Buzz coffee shop will stay open Friday nights after every Sequim High School home game this fall and winter.
At 130 N. Sequim Ave., the shop specializes in coffees and blends and serves ice cream and snacks.

training offered
A certified aging-in-place specialist class is scheduled for Tuesday-Thursday, Sept. 22-24, at Days Inn, 1510 E. Front St., Port Angeles. The three-day class provides information about technical, business management and customer service skills required to enter the aging-in-place market.
The price of the series is $595 for North Peninsula Building Association members and $670 for nonmembers.

Allen hired
at Visiting Angels
Shelly Allen has been hired as the marketing representative for Visiting Angels. She is in charge of building and maintaining client relationships while educating businesses about Visiting Angels’ services.
She graduated from Peninsula Community College with specialty training in senior care. She worked in customer service for more than 20 years and brings an understanding of the elder population into the marketing arena.
Visiting Angels’ office in Port Angeles is at 127 E. First St. but provides in-home care throughout the Olympic Peninsula.

Wech attends
officers council
FaLeana Wech recently attended the Executive Officers Council of the National Association of Home Builders’ four-day educational seminar in Louisville, Ky.
Wech became the executive officer and government affairs director of the North Peninsula Building Association in February 2009. Prior to that, she served as a state director for the North Peninsula Building Association for three years representing Hines Construction, Inc.
She majored in politics at Whitman College in Walla Walla.
As a first-time attendee at the seminar, Wech received a scholarship by the EOC with the National Association of Home Builders in Washington, D.C.
Grant awarded for fruits and vegetables
Port Angeles School District’s Dry Creek Elementary School was awarded a $27,000 grant for participation in the U.S. Department of Agriculture Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program during the 2009-2010 school year.
The program, a partnership between the USDA and the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction, provides all Dry Creek students a variety of fresh fruit and vegetables throughout the school day.

Osterberg named as branch manager
Sound Community Bank named Kari Osterberg as branch manager of the Port Angeles office at 110 N. Alder St.
Osterberg is a veteran banker with more than 30 years of local banking experience.
Prior to joining Sound Community Bank in June, she served as vice-president at Westsound Bank in Port Angeles and worked at KeyBank.
Osterberg is involved with the American Cancer Society 24-Hour Relay for Life, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and the YMCA Taste of the Peninsula.
She has spearheaded team fundraising efforts for the Olympic Peninsula Humane Society, a local food bank and the Salvation Army Angel Tree, along with adopting foster children in need at Christmas time.
Peninsula Tourism Summit
Members of Olympic Peninsula Tourism Commission are sponsoring the Tourism Summit on Wednesday, Oct. 14, at the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribal Center, 1033 Old Blyn Highway, Blyn.
This year the one-day tourism and networking event will focus on how to get the most out of technology and social media during this economy, with hands-on labs presented by regional and international speakers.
The summit also will be a platform to introduce the Olympic Peninsula Loop Culinary Tourism Association, a 501(c)(6) association that exists to define, promote and celebrate the Olympic Peninsula’s unique culinary experience, educate consumers and ultimately establish the region as a niche tourism destination.
