Laurel Black Design’s recent visual logos for the Co-op Farm and Garden store and the North Olympic Library System were chosen as winners in the prestigious Graphic Design USA competition. Laurel Black Design has provided graphic design support to businesses since 1980, along with illustration, copy writing and promotional consultation. Many of Black’s designs have become familiar landmarks on the Olympic Peninsula, including logos for Jefferson Transit, Olympic Medical Center, Jace Real Estate and the U.S. Highway 101 Safety Corridor.

George R. Braly, CPA CFE FCPA, a CPA financial forensics expert, has been awarded the Certified in Financial Forensics credential by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. The credential is granted to qualified CPAs with considerable professional experience in financial forensics. Braly met the requirements, which include demonstrating significant business experience in the area of financial forensics as well as completing a minimum of 75 hours of lifelong learning and education activities in the area of financial forensics. The credential is granted exclusively to CPAs who are members in good standing of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, which binds them to the institute’s code of professional conduct.

The Dungeness River Audubon Center, 2151 W. Hendrickson Road, is open from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, closed on Sunday and Monday. The Greenhouse Nursery, 81 S. Bagley Creek Road at U.S. Highway 101, Port Angeles, has changed to winter hours of 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Saturday. A full selection of plants suitable for the season’s outdoor planting will be maintained.

Karla Forsbeck, AIA, of Dungeness Design has been chosen to serve on the Clallam County Heritage Advisory Board. Dungeness Design is a full-service architectural design company located at 520 N. Sequim Ave.

Christopher J. Riffle has joined the Platt Irwin Law Firm as an associate attorney. Riffle has been practicing law with a firm in Omaha, Neb., for the past two years and recently moved his family to Port Angeles, his hometown. He graduated from Port Angeles High School in 1993 and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and sociology in 1998 from the University of Washington. He graduated from the University of Nebraska College of Law. His practice areas of expertise include real property, corporate law and civil litigation.
