It’s back! And thanks to community donations, children and families in need are getting access to the YMCA of Sequim, which reopened doors to the former Sequim Aquatic Recreation Center on Oct. 24.

The YMCA of Sequim’s “Because Life is a Community Sport” raised $176,380 to help youths and needy families participate in YMCA programs. The YMCA of Sequim launched the “Because Life is a Community Sport Campaign” in June 2016 and received gifts from 140 donors.

As a result of the campaign, the Y will be able to offer financial assistance to help kids have a safe place to learn and build confidence after school, for families reconnect and grow together and all members have access to education and training to reach their full potential, YMCA officials said.

“We thank our members, volunteers, staff, our partners and the community for their contributions,” Olympic Peninsula YMCA CEO Len Borchers said.

“Their support gives us the resources to make sure everyone in our community has opportunities to reach their full potential in a safe, welcoming environment. We could not do this alone.”

A grand opening for the YMCA of Sequim is set for 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 30, at the facility, 610 N. Fifth Ave. The facility’s hours are 5 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Friday and 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
