Candidate Filing Week set for May 6-10

Those interested in running for public office in Washington state can formally declare candidacy for the 2024 elections when Candidate Filing Week starts Monday, May 6, both online and at elections offices across the state.

During the May 6-10 filing period, candidacies can be declared for more than 400 federal, state, judicial, legislative, county and other offices scheduled for 2024 elections.

Local offices open for election his year include:

• County Commissioner District 2

• Public Utility District 1 – Commissioner District 2 and Commissioner District 3

• Charter Review Commission — Commissioner District 1, Commissioner District 2 and Commissioner District 3 (five positions in each district)

• Precinct Committee Officers (two positions in each precinct, one each for the Republican and Democratic parties)

Multiple state offices are open for election. All statewide executive offices, all Congressional seats, a U.S. Senate position, and the majority of state Legislature seats will be on the ballot. Clallam County residents seeking to run for elected office have multiple ways to file for candidacy. Prospective candidates may file online, in person, or by mail.

Applicants are encouraged to file online if possible. Candidates can file at clallamcountywa.gov/elections. Online filing begins at 8 a.m., Monday, May 6, and ends at 5 p.m. sharp on Friday, May 10.

In-person filing is available at the Clallam County Elections and Voter Registration Office, located on the lower level of the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Room 042, Port Angeles. During filing week, the office is open 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Mailed Declarations of Candidacy are also accepted and must be received by the Elections and Voter Registration Office no later than 5 p.m., Friday, May 10. The required forms are available for download at clallamcountywa.gov/elections. If filing fees are due, include a check payable to the Clallam County Auditor’s Office.

Filing fees, regardless of filing method, must be received by the Elections and Voter Registration Office no later than 5 p.m. Friday, May 10, to complete the filing process. Late payments are not accepted and would thus void the filing. Online filing fees may be paid by credit card. Payments made in-person are by cash or check only.
