Clallam County Fire District 3 reports that on Wednesday morning, a “good Samaritan” helped roll a car that was on fire away from gas pumps at the Sequim Safeway fuel station to prevent any injuries and/or damages to the structure.
Battalion Chief Chris Turner said firefighters were dispatched at 10:53 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10 to the fuel station at 680F W. Washington St. for the car fire.
Fire engines from Sequim station 34 responded and extinguished the Buick Century within five about minutes.
Turner said the driver heard popping noises from the car as he drove into the station for gas, and he couldn’t put it into neutral.
“Thankfully, a good Samaritan helped push the car out of the way (of the fuel station),” he said.
The flames weren’t significant, Turner said, but an active bystander was seen using a fire extinguisher on the car upon their arrival.
No injuries were reported
Sequim Police Department was called to the scene to assist with removing the car.
Turner said fires at Sequim gas stations are not common during his time with the fire department.
