Greywolf Elementary School, 171 Carlsborg Road, was advised to shelter-in-place for a few minutes on Tuesday, March 18 after an arrest was made nearby on U.S. Highway 101.
Chief Criminal Deputy Amy Bundy with Clallam County Sheriff’s Office said that a sergeant arrested a suspect with warrants at 11:57 a.m. He was riding a bicycle west on the north side of U.S. Highway 101.
Out of an abundance of caution, the Sequim School District’s school resource officer asked school officials to shelter-in-place, she said.
The suspect was in custody three minutes later at noon, Bundy said, and the school was advised to go out of shelter-in-place by the school resource officer.
Sequim School District issued an early afternoon email to families saying that the school’s administrators were “contacted by law enforcement and advised to initiate a shelter-in-place while they secured a suspect in the Carlsborg area.”
School officials confirmed the incident didn’t occur on Greywolf’s campus.
“Staff and students responded quickly and appropriately to ensure everyone’s safety,” district staff said. “School indoor activities carried on within the school.
“Once the arrest was made, staff resumed normal school day activities without further interruption.”
“As always, the safety of our students and staff remains our top priority,” school staff said.
