The next board meeting is at 6 p.m. Monday, April 20, in the board room. The agenda is available on the district website at www.Sequim.k12.wa.us.

Board meetings always are open to the public.

Science and Engineering Fair students from Helen Haller Elementary, Sequim Middle School and Sequim High School will have their exhibits set up and will be on hand for questions in the hallway outside the boardroom beginning at 5:45 p.m.

These students and science club advisor Debra Beckett will be recognized during the board meeting for outstanding results at the Washington State Science and Engineering Fair last week (see results below).

Fifteen Sequim students participated in the 58th Washington State Science and Engineering Fair in Bremerton on March 27-28. A total of 13 first-place awards were garnered by Sequim students. They competed with 675 students from grades 1-12 that submitted 600 projects for over 200 awards, totaling $1.8 million in scholarships.

This award recognizes an exceptional student of science in grades 7-8 demonstrating ambition and an ability beyond their peers in their grade levels.

In addition, Weber was selected to compete in the National Broadcom MASTERS competition for middle school students.

GREYWOLF ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

More than 50 drama club students and facilitators Shannon Green and Sheri Burke have been hard at work to present “Sleeping Beauty.”

Be prepared to meet the evil Maleficent (Kariya Johnson) as she tries her best to keep Princess Aurora (McKenzie Robbins) away from Prince Philip (Reef Gelder). Performances are open to the public at 6 p.m. Friday, April 17, and 4 p.m. Saturday, April 18, in the school gym.

Doors open 30 minutes before performance time. There is no admission, but donations always are appreciated and will be used for next year’s drama club production.

HELEN HALLER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

A parent kindergarten readiness meeting will be held from 6-7 p.m. in the school library. Parents will have the opportunity to meet and talk with the principal and kindergarten teachers.

Information about curriculum, first day expectations, how parents can prepare their children, busing, immunization requirements and the importance of attendance will be presented.

Your child needs to be 5 years old on or before Aug. 31 in order to attend kindergarten in the fall of 2015.

Kindergarten registration and screening will be from 4-6:30 p.m. Monday, May 4.

For more information about these events, call 582-3200.

Stephanie GrotzkeNash’s kindergarten classes continue their year-long efforts at creating self-portraits in the style of a well-known artist.

So far, they’ve followed the style of illustrator Raina Telgemeier, Italian painter Modigliani, American artist Keith Haring, cartoonist Dr. Seuss and Mexican painter Frida Kahlo, with artists Marc Allante and Romero Britto to be created before the end of the school year.

Students follow a step-by-step process using a variety of mediums from oil pastels to watercolor to tempera paint to pencil. Each piece has a different feeling and personalized touch, with shapes and sizes of eyes, noses and mouths, and cute smiles and brightly painted backdrops.

SEQUIM HIGH SCHOOL

The ACT test will be administered in the cafeteria at 7:45 a.m. Saturday, April 18.

Yearbooks will be on sale from April 20-May 1 for $60 in the front office.
