Students in Emily Breithaupt’s floral design class, part of the Agriculture Science program, made floral arrangements for their final exercise for the class. Imagination was evident in each distinctive arrangement, with regard to theme, flower choice, the size of the arrangement and the container.

Jaimee Appel decided to use a colorful cowboy boot to put her arrangement in and coordinated the flowers with the boot’s colors.

Wyatt Billings turned his big yellow truck, once relegated to his backyard, into a floral arrangement.

Karina Morris, though it has been a lot of work, decided to make a large arrangement in a bucket for a special friend who has been helpful to her.

Austin Wagner used a glass mug and drinking straw to create a root beer float arrangement.

This year a group of Sharle Osborne’s fourth-graders worked with parent volunteer Sonu Deol learning about other cultures in the world. They studied Spain and Mayhsa Deol even took a trip there this spring! They presented to the class about customs and major festivals and attractions. The group also studied Brazil, this year’s host to the World Cup. Their studies ended with learning about the diverse country of India, reporting to the class about fun festivals across the land. The girls were dressed in traditional attire and ended the presentation by dressing their teacher in a beautiful sari (above).

Stephanie Lancaster’s fourth-graders have been learning about Native Americans. We have dug deep into the cultures and history of different native groups, especially those indigenous to our area. Scott O’Dell’s popular book “Island of the Blue Dolphins” was a fitting selection that encompassed our studies. It is a historical fiction based on a native tribe that lived on an island off California’s rocky coast.

Group 4 (Logan Phipps, Aidyn Shingleton, Kaleb Cassidy and Olivia Owen):

If we were stranded on an island, we would first team up and cautiously search the land. We would most likely be worried. Then, we would search for water and get it from a lake, river, stream or spring. We would not get it from the ocean because it is not good to drink sea water because it has too much salt in it and it can make you sick. The next thing we would do is make some weapons. Since we have four people in our group, we could probably make some pretty good tools. We would try to make bows, arrows and spears.

After we had water and a way to protect ourselves, we would try to make a shelter. On the island we would look for washed up or fallen wood and bones.
