Christian high school looking good for 2010-11

The staff and board of directors of Olympic Christian School seem optimistic their high school at Independent Bible Church will remain open.

The staff and board of directors of Olympic Christian School seem optimistic their high school at Independent Bible Church will remain open.

"I feel very positive about things," said Ken Crady, board president.

He and the other directors were presented with three models for restructuring the high school at the board’s March 15 meeting.

Crady said they enthusiastically chose a model to send to their finance committee for review that incorporates home schoolers to receive a diploma rather than a G.E.D.

Brian Clark, principal for the high school, said the restructuring could incorporate a computer-based academy that would give high school credit through Web-based education.

"We are very hopeful that this program’s proposal will be viable for next year and continue high school Christian education services in our community," Clark said.

The board is expected to review the proposal at its next meeting, April 19.

Clark said the model seems financially viable even in the bad economic climate.

"We were very careful with selecting and it’s clear the present model won’t continue but more models like this will continue the school," Crady said.

Clark said decisions regarding the high school will not affect the preschool or K-6 programs at 43 O’Brien Road, Port Angeles.

The school continues to look for new partnerships and held an open house March 12, which Clark said brought in several new people and interest to the high school.

"We’re very interested in hearing from the home school community about how we can partner," Crady said.
