Olympic Christian School, 43 O’ Brien Road, Port Angeles, held their annual science fair on March 18th.
Fifth grader Haylie Newton, 11, pictured middle, won first place for her experiment seeing how peer pressure affected first graders’ choices for selecting a favorite color.
She determined pressure does affect decision making and that girls preferred pink and purple, and boys preferred blue and green.
Carson Wilder, 10, right, won second by testing birds to see what type of seeds they preferred; and Mikaela Dodson, 11, left, won third place for experimenting on music’s affect on iris’ growth.
All students in Kindergarten-fifth grade and some sixth graders competed and worked two months on their projects for the show.
They used the scientific method and formed their own hypotheses for each experiment.
