You don’t yarn-bomb a city you don’t love, said author Peter Kageyama to a crowd of more than 40 community leaders and members on Monday inside the Sequim Civic Center.
Kageyama discussed with residents what they love about Sequim and strategies for tapping into citizens’ energies such as through public art. Community members created T-shirt ideas for Sequim and discussed a $500 project for the city to support.
The group voted on “It’s always sunny in Sequim,” spearheaded by Jodi Minker with the Sequim-Dungeness Valley Chamber of Commerce and her team of Colleen Robinson, Patricia McCauley and Dave Mattingley.
Minker said the project places stencil suns in random places in the city with clear water-repellant paint that appears when the sidewalk is wet.
“It reminds us all that we live in sunny Sequim even when it’s raining,” Minker said.
She said they are considering sun designs for the contest and can be reached through the chamber of commerce at 683-6197.
