City of Sequim plans work on Sunnyside Avenue

Beginning Monday, Oct. 23, the City of Sequim will begin replacement of a water main and sewer main on North and South Sunnyside Avenue from Maple Street to East Fir Street.

The first of the project’s three phases begins Oct. 23 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2017. Crews will work in the area between 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Drivers can expect temporary roadway closures and lane closures. The road will remain open to residents living adjacent to the project work zone.

The project includes replacing and enlarging an existing 6-inch asbestos cement water main that is near the end of its service life, with a new 8-inch polyvinylchloride (PVC) main. City crews will also replace and enlarge a 12-inch concrete sewer main to an 18-inch PVC main to increase collection capacity to accommodate the Carlsborg sewer connection and future growth.

The project will then upgrade curb ramps on South Sunnyside Avenue to meet federal accessibility requirements and will overlay Sunnyside Avenue from Maple Street to East Fir Street.

Phases two, three

Phase two includes underground utility work constructed in the Sunnyside/Washington Street intersection and will be constructed from mid-January through February 2018.

Overnight work for phase two is set for 7 p.m.-6 a.m. Drivers can expect temporary closure of Washington Street at the Sunnyside intersection, and detours will be in place to help navigate drivers around the work zone.

Phase three includes underground utility work, sidewalk and curb ramp improvements and final paving from Washington Street to Maple Street and will be constructed between February-April of 2018. Work for phase three is scheduled for 7 p.m.-6 a.m.

Drivers can expect temporary closures of South Sunnyside, and detours will be in place to help navigate drivers around the work zone.

Sidewalk and paving work will occur during the day between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Drivers can expect temporary lane closures and delays lasting 5-10 minutes.
