The City of Sequim will hold a groundbreaking ceremony at the building site of the new Civic Center, 152 W. Cedar St., at 9 a.m. Thursday, May 29.

To enter the job site for the ceremony, participants must wear boots, long pants, a safety vest and a hard hat.

The ceremony will commemorate the beginning of the actual building construction, as the construction crew begins to build the forms for the foundation. Work on the building site began in April with the demolition of the old City Hall and three other buildings, utility work and site grading.

Construction of the new Civic Center is expected to be complete mid-year 2015. The Civic Center will house the police station, City Hall and a community plaza.
