Clallam County buys property off Cline Spit

The Clallam County Parks, Fair and Facilities Department is buying the tidelands adjacent to Cline Spit along Cline Spit Road to increase public enjoyment, allow local/public access and improve maintenance of the area, according to a memo to the Clallam County commissioners.

The commissioners were scheduled to designate Don Crawford to sign the closing documents at an Aug. 1 work session.

The cost will be $120,000. The county is using general fund reserves.

The property was owned by Thomas J. and Mariann C. Manley of Seattle.

Cline Spit is located about a half-mile west of Dungeness Landing County Park off Marine Drive.

Cline Spit Community Beach County Park covers about 2 acres, with the boat ramp providing access to inner Dungeness Bay and 240 lineal feet of public tidelands.

The park was acquired and renovated by the county in 1984.

The county negotiated a land trade with owners of the spit, San Juan Farms, Inc., and rebuilt the ramp, parking lot, installed boundary fencing and a vault toilet with the grant funds from Washington State Parks in 1984.
