Clallam PUD gets clean bill of health from state auditor

The Washington State Auditor’s Office recently issued Clallam County Public Utility District No. 1 a clean report on its financial statements and compliance with federal laws and regulations,PUD officials said last week.

The latest report, presented to PUD commissioners and staff in an exit conference held on Nov. 17, covers the period of Jan. 1-Dec. 31, 2019.

The report focused on recent financial and accountability audits as well as the audits for federal grant compliance and Energy Independence Act conservation compliance.

Financial audits ensure the PUD accurately accounts for public funds, PUD officials said. Accountability audits certify that units of state and local governments adhere to required laws and regulations relating to financial matters.

In addition to the clean audit, Clallam PUD was also designated a Diamond-level Reliable Public Power Provider by the American Public Power Association, as well as a Smart Energy Provider. The designations, PUD officials said, certify that the district has demonstrated leading practices in the following areas: reliability, safety, workforce development, system improvement, smart energy program structure, energy efficiency and distributed energy programs, environmental and sustainability initiatives and customer experience.

“This report and our recognized achievements reflects the good work of all 140 employees of Clallam PUD,” general manager Doug Nass said. “As a public utility it is our job to be good stewards of the trust placed in us by the citizens of our service area and we hope this instills community pride in their PUD.”
