Clallam County Sheriff Bill Benedict and the county commissioners honored retired Sgt. Randy Pieper for his 43 years of service to the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office on Jan. 8.
Pieper, who officially retired on Jan. 1, began his career with Clallam County in 1977 as a reserve deputy. In 1980 he became a full-time deputy sheriff. From 1977—2008 he was assigned to the county’s West End as a patrol deputy, detective, and firearms instructor.
Pieper was promoted to sergeant in February 2008 and worked as a patrol supervisor in central and eastern Clallam County. He also took on responsibilities of lead firearms instructor and rangemaster.
Pieper participated in nearly each Neighborhood Watch meeting in Clallam County for the last 10 years and volunteered to run Citizen’s Firearm Safety classes, utilizing his skills with a firearms simulator. He also assisted in orchestrating the Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony each year and serves as a Patriot Guard Rider.
“Randy’s commitment to his community is an example to all,” Benedict said in a press release.
“Sgt. Pieper’s 43 years of commissioned law enforcement service has set both a longevity and productivity bar that is unequaled in Clallam County history,” Benedict added. “He has performed his duties with unmatched skill, energy and dedication and exemplifies the best in community service and professionalism.”
