Washington law enforcement officers will join the national Click It or Ticket campaign aimed at encouraging everyone to wear their seat belt on every trip.

Each year in Washington about 100 people who were not belted die in crashes.

Extra patrols will run from May 23-June 5.

A ticket for not wearing a seat belt is $136.

In Clallam and Jefferson counties, the Sequim, Port Angeles, and Port Townsend Police Departments, the Clallam and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Offices and the Washington State Patrol will be participating in the extra patrols, through the coordination of the Clallam and Jefferson Regional Target Zero Traffic Safety Task Force.

These extra patrols are part of Target Zero — striving to end traffic deaths and serious injuries in Washington by 2030.
