College offers free summer academies

The deadline for applying for the 2010 Native American Summer Heritage Academy and the 2010 Latino/Chicano Summer Heritage Academy is 5 p.m. Friday, May 7.

The deadline for applying for the 2010 Native American Summer Heritage Academy and the 2010 Latino/Chicano Summer Heritage Academy is 5 p.m. Friday, May 7. Both academies are free to the selected students.

Both are June 21-25 at Peninsula College in Port Angeles.

They are for high school and college students and intended to provide an immersion experience in culture, history, literature and traditions. Participants also learn how to excel in their classes, how cultural identity promotes success and how to accomplish their goals.

Applicants should be entering the 11th or 12th grades in high school and have an interest in attending a college or university or be enrolled in college and have earned fewer than 45 college credits.

Applications may be obtained from high school counselors, at the Peninsula College Student Services Center (Building D) and the House of Learning Longhouse on the main campus or the Peninsula College Extension sites in Forks and Port Townsend.
