Collision west of Sequim sends one person to hospital

A Sequim woman was transported to the hospital after a vehicle collision on U.S. Highway 101 in the late afternoon on Wednesday (March 13).

Washington State Patrol reports Kenneth Schuman, 71, of Sequim, was traveling east on the highway around 4:38 p.m. and attempted a left turn at Gilbert Road when his 2004 Honda Accord struck 59-year-old Sequim resident Rhonda Huchonson’s 2019 Subaru Crosstrek while she was traveling west on the highway.

Both vehicles came to rest in the far right lane of the westbound highway, State Patrol reports.

Hutchinson was transported to Olympic Medical Center for minor injuries, Clallam County Fire District 3 reports.

Olympic Medical Center officials report she was treated and released.

Both drivers were wearing seatbelts and alcohol and drugs were not involved.

State Patrol reports they’ve processed a charge with the Clallam County Prosecutor’s Office against Schuman for failing to yield.

The Department of Transportation posted on X/Twitter the highway’s westbound lanes were blocked for about 30 minutes.
