Committee seeks Public Health Heroes

Every year, individuals, groups and businesses contribute to the good health of Clallam County residents.

Every year, individuals, groups and businesses contribute to the good health of Clallam County residents. To recognize these contributions, the county Public Health Advisory Committee seeks nominations for the second annual Public Health Heroes award.

Examples of activities for which individuals or groups may be nominated include:

_ Promoting a healthy lifestyle through activities

_ Keeping children safe and healthy

_ Working on clean indoor air/water issues

_ Promoting good nutrition

_ Preparing for a disaster or an emergency

_ Disease education and prevention

_ Decreasing workplace injuries

_ Working on housing

and transportation

2008 award winners were:

Individual: Mary Griffith, R.N., Dungeness Health and Wellness Clinic

Youth: Marissa Ortega-Welch and Gabriel Bernier, The Gleaning Project

Community: Larry and Michelle Little, The Children’s Marathon Project

Business: Nash’s Organic Produce, organic food

Program: New Family Services at Olympic Medical Center

Nominations are due by Oct. 8. Nomination forms are at www.clallam.net/HHS/PublicHealth/index.html or at the Clallam County Public Health Department. Nominees must live in or do business in Clallam County.
