Community celebrates with pride

The June 28 Pride Month Celebration at the Sequim Civic Center, sponsored by Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe, was “the first gay pride event in Sequim,” according to Michael Lowe.

“I’m so tickled that people listened and we were able to pull this off,” said Lowe, a Jamestown citizen.

Lowe, Marisa Wiphy Byrn, Morgan Snell and Sarah McCullem organized the event over the course of three weeks.

“This was our first chance to be able to work with the community,” Lowe said. “I’m looking forward to being able to do this again next year on a much larger scale.”

Lowe said that “125-150 people flowed in and out,” of the event, which featured planned and extemporaneous speeches and ended with a short march.

“The spirit was there,” he said. “There was mutual love from all people.”
