From one community group to another, the support just keeps coming.

Sequim Community Aid received a special gift on Feb. 16 — a $3,000 donation from the Sequim Community Christmas Chorus group.

The chorus raised the money through ticket sales from its 2010 concerts and contributions from local organizations and individuals.

“We are thrilled to be able to give $1,000 more to Sequim Community Aid than in previous years,” said chorus coordinator Julie Jackson.

“Sequim Community Aid helps people in a crisis survive and we could not operate without this kind of support,” said Sequim Community Aid president Donna Tidrick.

“If someone loses power, they not only have their power shut off but they lose a deposit and they have a reconnect fee,” Jackson said. “Sequim Community Aid helps pay the bill, so it’s a bigger savings than just that bill.”

All of the money goes to provide emergency aid for families and individuals within the Sequim School District.

Sequim Community Aid, founded in 1947, continues to provide assistance, such as one-time help with utilities or rent, when residents’ most basic needs for daily living are in jeopardy. It is an all-volunteer organization and does not maintain an office.

In 2010, First Federal donated $1,000, Sound Community Bank donated $500, and the The Co-op Farm & Garden Center contributed $100 on behalf of Sequim Community Aid.

“We are so grateful to First Federal and Sound Community Bank for their continued support and to the Co-op for its first-time gift,” Jackson said.

Gary McRoberts has directed the Sequim Community Christmas Chorus since 2006. The chorus, founded in 1984, is open to singers of all backgrounds, religions and levels of experience.
