Yacht Club to meet

“Everyone at the Table,” the Sequim Food Bank’s first community fundraiser, is the topic for the Oct. 8 presentation at Sequim Bay Yacht Club by Andra Smith, the food bank’s executive director.

Open to the public at no charge, Smith’s talk starts at 6 p.m. in the Hendricks Room of John Wayne Marina, 2577 W. Sequim Bay Road.

Today the food bank employs 12 and has more than 250 active volunteers. Since Smith became executive director in 2016, the organization’s budget has grown from $800,000 to nearly $3 million. It relies on both donations and grants to serve an ever-increasing population, now almost 11,000.

Yacht club representatives welcome contributions of cash, nonperishable food items and fresh garden produce at the meeting.

Fundraiser for local student

A fundraiser for Sequim sixth-grader Ember Hanshaw and her family has been set for 5-8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27 at Rainshadow Cafe, 157 W. Cedar St.

The daughter of Tim and Jennifer Hanshaw, Ember, the oldest of their two daughters, has patent ductus arteriosus, a congenital heart disease, as well as pediatric pulmonary hypertension in her lungs. She has right ventricle dysfunction and a genetic condition called hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT). The conditions are classified as part of Eisenmenger syndrome, a life-threatening condition that affects one in 100 million people.

JFW Band will provide live entertainment and raffle tickets will be sold for $1 each, giving attendees a chance to win items donated by local businesses and individuals. All tips will be donated to the family.
