County Planning Commission meets

The Clallam County Planning Commission holds its regular meeting at 6:30 p.m. today, Nov. 7, at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

Work session items include Lower Dungeness River Estuary and Floodplain Acquisition, Restoration, and Public Access Projects. A public comment period is scheduled. Call 417-2277.

Debris Response Plan discussed

A community meeting to discuss the state’s Marine Debris Response Plan is at 6 p.m. today, Nov. 7, at the Port Angeles Senior Center, 328 E. Seventh St.

The meeting is an opportunity to learn about the resources that the state can bring to bear on the issue of marine debris and the possibility that the coasts will see a rising volume of debris as items from the March 2011 Tohoku tsunami arrive.

Alternative healthy film screens

City offers surplus for sale

The City of Sequim has declared certain items, including vehicles, desks and more, to be surplus.

Sealed bids must be submitted to City Clerk Karen Kuznek-Reese at Sequim City Hall no later than Tuesday, Nov. 13. By city policy, City of Sequim employees may not participate.

Guild Thrift shop open Saturday

The Sequim-Dungeness Hospital Guild’s Thrift Shop, 204 W. Bell St., Sequim, is open 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17.

The shop offers holiday items, winter clothing, furniture, kitchen items and jewelry.

Friends of the Sequim Library holds its Second Saturday Book Sale from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at the library, 630 N. Sequim Ave. Proceeds benefit the library.

O’Dell fundraiser this week

Through Friday, Nov. 9, Angeles Academy of Hair & Nails will be donating 50 percent of all proceeds to the Violet O’Dell family in

Sequim. Violet died Oct. 26 of a brain glioma and her family has expenses insurance doesn’t cover.

Delays around Lake Crescent set

Expect up to 30-minute delays on U.S. Highway 101 at Lake Crescent through Friday, Nov. 9, as final work on a cliff face is completed.

The road is reduced to one lane of traffic through the construction zone at Milepost 228 just past Sledgehammer Point. Oversized vehicles are encouraged to use an alternate route.

‘Education Under Fire’ screens

The Baha’is of Sequim host a free screening of “Education Under Fire” at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave.

The film, a documentary about Iran’s 30-year policy of denying higher education to members of the Baha’i community, will be followed by discussion of educational rights.

Auction, dinner benefit Boys & Girls Clubs

Fund supports cancer patients

The Kathleen Sutton Inspirational Fund’s Oct. 6 auction raised more than $42,000 to provide transportation assistance to Jefferson, Clallam and North Mason county women traveling for treatment of cancer. Visit www.kathleensutton.org.

Rock club holds open house

The nonprofit Clallam County Gem & Mineral Association holds its fall open house from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at the club’s shop, 81 Hooker Road, Unit 5, Sequim.

The event includes identification of rocks, demonstrations of cutting and polishing, and a tour of the facilities.

Seminar: Think economically
