Stop The Checkpoints meets

Stop The Checkpoints meets at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, in the lower meeting room at the Museum at the Carnegie, 207 S. Lincoln St., Port Angeles, for the second in a series of forums on U.S. immigration reform, with a focus on immigrants and employment. Disabled access and parking are at the rear of the building.

Silent auction to benefit victims of Hurricane Sandy

To benefit the Red Cross Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund, the Port Angeles Downtown Association has organized a silent auction to run until 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30. See items and sign bid sheets at participating businesses.

Winning bidders can pay the Red Cross directly for the item at the Laurel Street fountain at 2 p.m. Nov. 30 or PADA will phone winners to arrange payment.

Honor veterans each month

At 1 p.m. on the last Friday of each month, combined veterans groups honor local veterans who have died within the past month with a ceremony at Veterans Park, 271 S. Lincoln St., Port Angeles. As each name is read, a replica of the Liberty Bell rings.

After a flag-folding ceremony, the flag is presented to a relative of a fallen veteran. The honor guard fires three volleys, followed by taps on the bugle and “Amazing Grace” on the bagpipes.

The public is invited to join this monthly remembrance.

Chamber invites art, photos

The Sequim-Dungeness Valley Chamber of Commerce invites submissions for its 2013 Chamber Membership Plaque, distributed to renewing members annually.

Both photographs and original artwork may be submitted to the chamber at 1192 E. Washington St., Sequim.

Roller derby boot camp set

The Port Scandalous Roller Derby team hosts a “boot camp” and orientation for competitors from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 7, at Olympic Skate Center, 707 S. Chase St., Port Angeles.

The camp is for women 18 and older or for girls, ages 12-17. Cost is $50. Bring your own gear or borrow gear at the facility.

The group also is seeking skating and non-skating officials, male or female, ages 16 and older.

Poet opens First Tuesday readings

North Coast Writers series begins its First Tuesday readings again at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, at Wine on the Waterfront, 115 E. Railroad Ave., Port Angeles. The featured writer is poet Andrew Rahal.

OMC Auxiliary has holiday sales

Olympic Medical Center Auxiliary presents a special holiday shopping event from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, in the lobby of the Sequim Medical Services Building, 840 N. Fifth Ave. A similar event is from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, at Olympic Medical Center, 939 Caroline St., Port Angeles.

The event offers handmade arts and crafts, including fused glass, hand-painted tiles, jewelry, horseshoe art and more.

Proceeds benefit OMC Auxiliary.
