City pond to be drained

On Thursday, Nov. 15, the City of Sequim Public Works Department will temporarily drain the water reuse storage pond at the Water Reuse Demonstration Park for maintenance; the pond will be back in service as soon as possible. Drop for Tots open

The John L. Scott Real Estate office at 1190 E. Washington St., in Sequim, is open from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Saturday as a drop-off site for Toys for Tots.

OCS sells See’s Candy for holiday

As an annual fundraiser, Olympic Christian School is selling See’s Candy until Nov. 16. OCS students and families take your orders and then deliver the candy in time for Christmas gifts and holiday enjoyment. Call the school at 457-4640.

Screenings deal with water

Eagles’ new home celebration set

The Fraternal Order of Eagles #483, Port Angeles, invites the public to a grand opening and ribbon cutting at 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, at its new building, 2843 E. Marine councils to meet Friday

NOAA’s Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary hosts a joint meeting of its advisory council and the Olympic Coast Intergovernmental Policy Council on Friday, Nov. 16, at the Olympic Natural Resources Center, 1455 S. Forks Ave., in Forks.

The morning session will identify joint priorities and opportunities for collaboration; the afternoon session will focus on the advisory council’s 2013 draft work plan, 2013 meeting dates and election of officers.

SARC offers lifeguard training

Sequim Aquatic Recreation Center, 610 N. Fifth Ave., offers a four-day American Red Cross lifeguard certification course from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday-Sunday Nov. 17-18 and Nov. 24-25. Cost is $150 ($100 for passholders.) Call 683-3344, ext. 16, for more information. The next class is Dec. 1-2 and 8-9.

Dinners to start at new time

The monthly community dinners at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100  Blake Ave., will switch to a new time — 5 p.m. — effective with the Nov. 29 dinner. The church presents the free dinners on the last Thursday of each month. The next meal features turkey with dressing, vegetables, salad and dessert.

Hoops sign-up set

Registration forms for the Sequim Youth Basketball Program’s 2012-2013 season are available online at www.sequimgazette.com.

The program is open to boys and girls in grades 1-6. Evaluation sessions are set for Saturday, Nov. 24, and Saturday, Dec. 1. Call 683-7093 or 681-3252 for more information.

McTakeover to help SHS squad

The Sequim High School girls swimming and diving team hosts a McTakeover tonight, Nov. 14, from 6-8 p.m., at the Sequim McDonald’s, 107 S. Seventh Ave.

Proceeds from the event go to help purchase equipment and offset other costs.

Sequim Senior Nutrition Site menus are served at 4:30 p.m. at Suncrest Village Retirement Apartments, 251 S. Fifth Ave. Suggested donation is $5 ($7 guest) and a 24-hour   advance reservation is needed. RSVP to 683-8491. Menus are subject to change.

College offers literacy program

Peninsula College’s Family Literacy Program is recruiting for the fall quarter. Class is held 9 a.m.-noon every Monday-Thursday at the Mount Angeles View Family Center, 2620 S. Francis St., Port Angeles.

Classes are for parents who need to get their GED or improve their basic skills before transitioning to college or finding a new career.

Monday-Wednesday focuses on academics and Thursday classes are led by a parenting instructor. Child care is provided on-site for children under 2 years old.

Genealogy open house on hold

Because of the holiday season, the Clallam County Genealogical Society will not be hosting its “Last Saturday of the Month Open House” in November or December.
