City pond to be drained

Marine councils to meet Friday
NOAA’s Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary hosts a joint meeting of its advisory council and the Olympic Coast Intergovernmental Policy Council on Friday, Nov. 16, at the Olympic Natural Resources Center, 1455 S. Forks Ave., in Forks.
The morning session will identify joint priorities and opportunities for collaboration; the afternoon session will focus on the advisory council’s 2013 draft work plan, 2013 meeting dates and election of officers.
SARC offers lifeguard training
Sequim Aquatic Recreation Center, 610 N. Fifth Ave., offers a four-day American Red Cross lifeguard certification course from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday-Sunday Nov. 17-18 and Nov. 24-25. Dinners to start at new time
The monthly community dinners at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 Blake Ave., will switch to a new time — 5 p.m. — effective with the Nov. 29 dinner. The church presents the free dinners on the last Thursday of each month. The next meal features turkey with dressing, vegetables, salad and dessert.

McTakeover to help SHS squad
The Sequim High School girls swimming and diving team hosts a McTakeover tonight, Nov. 14, from 6-8 p.m., at the Sequim McDonald’s, 107 S. Seventh Ave.
Proceeds from the event go to help purchase equipment and offset other costs.

College offers literacy program
Peninsula College’s Family Literacy Program is recruiting for the fall quarter. Class is held 9 a.m.-noon every Monday-Thursday at the Mount Angeles View Family Center, 2620 S. Francis St., Port Angeles.
Classes are for parents who need to get their GED or improve their basic skills before transitioning to college or finding a new career.
Monday-Wednesday focuses on academics and Thursday classes are led by a parenting instructor. Child care is provided on-site for children under 2 years old.
