Candidates forum planned
Clallam County Democratic Club hosts a candidates forum at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, at the Pioneer Memorial Park clubhouse, 387 E. Washington St., Sequim.
The following candidates have been invited to attend: Mike East, Don Hall, William Huizinga, Ted Miller and Walt Schubert, Sequim City Council; John Kirshbaum and Virginia O’Neil, Sequim school board, Position 2; Jan Richardson and Susan Sorensen, commissioner 1, and Noelle Levesque and Robert Macaulay, commissioner 2, Parks and Recreation, District 1.
Candidates will have the opportunity to speak on their backgrounds and their approach to the office they seek to hold.

Outdoor burning update
The countywide burn ban was lifted on Sept. 30. Outdoor burning continues to be restricted in urban growth areas and in Sequim, Carlsborg, Port Angeles, Forks, Joyce, Clallam Bay and Sekiu.

Sequim group receives
marketing award
Friends of the Fields has been selected for the 2009 Best of Sequim Award in the Crop Planting and Protection category by the U.S. Commerce Association.
The USCA "Best of Local Business" Award Program recognizes businesses that have achieved exceptional marketing success in their community and business category. These are companies that enhance the positive image of small business through service to their customers and community.
The 2009 USCA Award Program focused on quality, not quantity. Winners are determined based on the information gathered both internally by the USCA and data provided by third parties.
Stop smoking support group
Persons interested in forming an informal support group for smoking cessation are encouraged to call 681-7043. This group would meet in the Sequim area, initially, with no dues or fees. Meeting times and venues will be determined as participants indicate interest. Successful quitters are welcome to help as mentors.

Hospice offers support groups
Volunteer Hospice of Clallam County offers grief recovery and support groups at two locations beginning Monday, Oct. 12.
A Sequim group meets 1-3 p.m. through Monday, Nov. 9, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 Blake Ave., Sequim.
A group meets from 6:30-8 p.m. through Monday, Nov. 16, at the Hospice House, 810 Albert St., Port Angeles. Call 452-1511.
